14, 478 houses destroyed by storm 1,613 families remain in Cordi evacuation centers

BAGUIO CITY – A total of 1,613 families, or 5,711 individuals, displaced by Super Typhoon "Egay" remain in evacuation centers or with their relatives in different areas of Cordillera.
    In a report, the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 1,300 families, or 4,830 individuals, still remain with their relatives; 261 families, or 881 individuals, are in evacuation centers while 52 families are in open evacuation centers in the region.
    This was part of 102,648 families, or 354,060 persons, from 72 municipalities and 784 barangay (villages) affected by the typhoon that wreaked havoc in the region.
    The CRDRRMC also reported there were 527 totally damaged houses and 13,951 partially damaged structures in Cordillera.
    The Cordillera Office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development also disclosed more than P27.6 million worth of food and nonfood assistance were distributed to  affected families, where P21.6 million came from the agency, P5.8 million provided by local governments and P65,597 worth of aid came from other donors.
    Abra got most of  assistance given to the calamity victims with P14.6 million worth of food and nonfood aid; followed by Apayao with P6.5 million; Baguio City, P4.9 million; Kalinga, P588,710; Mountain Province, P508,001; Benguet, P380,176; and Ifugao, P112,828.
    Earlier, the DSWD-CAR and provincial, city and municipal social welfare and development offices facilitated activities in calamity-strict areas in the region, including monitoring of the location of trucks for delivery of the relief goods in the provinces.
    The agency also facilitated unloading of family tents, provided additional 41,000 family food packs delivered to Abra, conducted orientation and production of family food packs at regional warehouse and continuous provisions of food and nonfood items to disaster-affected families in the Cordillera.
     It also sent goods to satellite warehouses to provide adequate supply of family food packs as need arises; real-time monitoring of weather updates, monitoring of situation reports and availability of food and nonfood resources.
