Suspect in slay of mother in Baguio arrested in Isabela

BAGUIO CITY -- The main suspect in killing of a 39-year-old
mother here beside the Baguio cemetery along Naguillan Road where they lived
was arrested by Baguio police in Tumauini, Isabela on July 16, police
said.
Police also rescued the 13-year-old minor he was with, the police report added.
Baguio police identified the suspect as alias "Karl," 22, male, resident of Malakas St., Quezon City.
The victim was identified as Floradel de Mesa. The suspect allegedly robbed her P100,000 she was supposed to bring to a hospital here the next day for her husband’s operation.
A follow-up investigation was conducted by the operatives of Naguilian Road Police Station in coordination with Tumauini Police Station, which led to the identification of the suspect and the location of his rented room and his abducted minor, on July 15.
The victim, mother of the abducted minor was found dead with four stab wounds and six incised wounds at their residence in San Luis Ext. on July 11 while her 3-year-old son was sleeping beside her.
She was discovered by her 17-year-old son at their house around 5:10 a.m. after he came home from watching his father who was confined at the Baguio General Hospital- Medical Center.
The rescued minor in the presence of her aunt voluntarily turned over a black jungle knife measuring 11.5 inches including its handle with black casing owned by the suspect.
The knife was believed to have been used by the suspect during the commission of the crime.
Cases of consented abduction of minor and robbery with homicide were filed against the suspect at the Office of the City Prosecutors for preliminary investigation on July 18, 2023.
The suspect was detained at Baguio City Jail while the minor is now under the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office
The victim's P100,000 cash and cellphone were missing reported missing earlier.
The money was supposed to be used for the surgery of her husband who was confined in the hospital.
Her three-year-old son was with her when the incident occurred and was unharmed.
Jonar, Floradel’s husband, told police he last spoke to her at 9 p.m. on July 10, on the phone.
He said he was expecting her to bring milk to the hospital at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Jonar said that his wife failed to come and did not call the next day.
He had a strange feeling so he told his other son to go home and look for his mother.
He arrived before dawn on Tuesday and called her mother to open the door but he received no response.
He forcibly opened the door and saw his mother bloodied and lifeless in her room and holding her 3-year-old brother who was sleeping.
