SM told: Install LED info board, build road

BAGUIO CITY -- City officials recently urged management of SM City Baguio to immediately install a light emitting diode (LED) parking information board at its buildings parking area along Gov. Pack Road to ease traffic along the road especially during weekends.
    Under resolution 554, series of 2023, the City Council said immediate installation of LED parking information board at the parking building of SM would provide information to motorists find available parking spaces efficiently or caution them if there are no more available parking spaces within the said structure thereby reducing congestion and traffic-related issues in the said area.
    The council requested that SM management construct a one-lane road within its property from Harrison road all the way to the entrance of their parking area to improve traffic management and ease congestion in the area.
    One urgent concern discussed by the members of the local legislative body during its deliberation on the traffic situation in the city is the heavy traffic at the vicinity of SM City Baguio, particularly along Gov. Pack Road that impacts on the overall traffic situation along the said road and its adjacent streets.
    The council said SM City Baguio is a popular destination for shoppers and patrons which is greatly contributing to significant vehicular traffic in the said area.
    Earlier, SM City Baguio constructed its expansion building that included a 5-level parking structure to provide additional parking spaces alike but this not sufficient to cater to the demand for parking spaces primarily because of the huge volume of motor vehicles plying the various roads in the city.
    Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the management of SM City Baguio for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. -- Dexter A. See
