Barangay chief in robbery arrested
BANGUED, Abra – Police arrested a newly elected barangay chairman for his alleged involvement in a robbery.
He was nabbed in the provincial office of the Department of Interior and Local Government here.
Senior Supt. Alexander Pumecha, director of the Abra provincial police office, said the arrested barangay captain is from Tineg.
Earlier, the Regional Trial Court in Abra issued a case of robbery with serious physical injuries.
It was alleged that the barangay official and his companions shot a certain Daniel Blaza in the face and robbed him of P55,000 in cash and other valuables at Caganayan, Tineg, Abra last Nov. 5. He was arrested barely three days after he assumed his post as a duly elected punong barangay.
He might spend a few days in jail if he cannot produce a P180,000 bail for his temporary liberty. -- Dexter See
