By Jennelyn Mondejar
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Pangasinan Councilors’ League urged the police last week to act on the recent murders of three municipal councilors in the province.
Provincial board member Raul Sison, head of the Philippine Councilors’ League’s Pangasinan chapter, filed a resolution Monday to request Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez, provincial police director to initiate immediate investigation. “This series of killings has become very alarming,” Sison said.
Slain were councilors Juan Ablao of Alcala town, Albert Sibayan of San Quintin town, and Igmedio Lariosa of Binalonan town. Gunmen who shot to death Lariosa morning of July 13 haven’t been identified yet, police said. Lariosa was shot several times as he was on his way home with a Cal. 5.56, killing him on the spot, in an isolated place in Barangay Camangan, a few meters away from his farm.
Police said Lariosa’s attacker took his service pistol, a Cal. 45, but did not touch his wallet containing cash as well as various documents.
The first victim was councilor Albert Sibayan of San Quintin town who was killed last July 2. Sibayan and Lariosa were killed in a span of 12 days this month.
