Creating new wealth

MANILA -- International organizations are now saying that the Philippines should not hinge its economic future on the assumption that the policy to deploy overseas Filipino workers will continue, as if forever. Some economic experts are saying that strictly speaking, the remittance of OFWs could not be considered as revenues for the national treasury, because these are merely cash flows that go into the national money stream.

Economists are also saying that developing countries should not hinge their economic futures on customs revenues, and should instead work towards increasing their export revenues. This thinking makes a lot of sense, in view of the reality that eventually, tariffs will be removed and will no longer be a source of national revenues. In this connection, should the Philippines consider OFW remittances as export revenues? I say no, because as far as I can remember, human beings are not supposed to be part of the commerce of man.

As I interviewed Ms. Deanne Hernandez in Ka Iking Live, I found out from her that the prospective revenues from about a million foreigners retiring in the Philippines could equal the total volume of remittances that is now sent in by about ten million overseas Filipinos. No, I am not saying that we should substitute OFW remittances for retiree incomes. I am just saying that we should look for other ways to create new wealth for our country.

I also interviewed Per’Tua inventor John Simon in Ka Iking Live, and he told me that the income from locally produced motor oils and blended diesel fuels could potentially earn at least ten times more than the remittances that we are now getting from OFWs.
Deanne is a human resource expert who now serves as a consultant to the Philippine Retirement Authority. I gather from my interview with her that projections of incomes from retirees does not yet include the prospective incomes from medical tourism in general and the wellness industry in particular, being one of the popular tourist come “attractions” now.

John on the other hand is a Filipino engineer who honed his knowledge of motor oils and diesel fuels in the United States , having worked for the Exxon Company there for many years. I am proud to say that he was also a member of the Science and Technology Advisory Council, the volunteer organization of foreign based Filipino scientists and engineers that I managed during my Foreign Service days.

One thing unique about John is that he already holds a US patent for his product, and the product is already distributed and used there for both automotive and airline applications. Basically, Per’Tua is a motor oil additive that has the capability of treating the metal inside the engine, in such a way that it would have a permanent lubricant lining.

The potential of Per’Tua in creating new wealth for the country is already mind boggling in itself, but what is really earth shaking is that John is now producing a 100% synthetic motor oil that equals if not surpasses the properties of petroleum based oils. What this means is that the Philippines could now potentially be an oil producing and an oil exporting country.

Aside from creating new wealth for the country, the synthetic motor fuels are also good for the environment, because it eliminates the need to extract oil from the natural deposits of the earth. As an aside, I believe in the theory of Erdy Evangelista, another Filipino inventor who says that global warming is partly due to the fact that the fossil oil deposits are actually the natural coolants of the earth.

The synthetic motor oils of John are also 100% biodegradable, and will not harm the soil or the water deposits in the event that these are released to the ground. Speaking of Erdy, he is the inventor of AeroNox, a fuel saving device that is now also distribute and used in the US . I am using this product myself, and I attest to it fuel saving effects.

Can you imagine what would happen if both Per’Tua and AeroNox are embraced by the whole world? The production potentials of these two products are practically infinite, and we could keep producing these two winners forever, ensuring a perpetual source of revenue for our country now and for the future. Perhaps we could even become a global power!
