Year of the Earth Ox

I noticed that in the Chinese lunar calendar, it always says that for people to be successful they must have a positive outlook in life. They must have perseverance and be industrious or hardworking – just like an Ox. For anyone born under any of the animal representations in the Chinese calendar, that is the common step that should be taken to face the challenges of the incoming year.

I am not one who reads the “horrorscope” but let me add to the insights narrated by Dr. Charles Cheng in the press conference held last week at the Hotel Supreme, Opal Room of Peter and Ivy Ng. The articles in a Chinese spring festival feng shui calendar was sent to me by an OFW musician-friend turned Feng Shui artist in Hong Kong .

These are interesting to some of our readers, especially to those who turn to the horoscope page right away as soon as they get hold of the day’s newspaper. In fact, this gave me an idea. I think it would be good for the newspaper business if horoscope articles are accommodated in the front page.

There are 12 animals in the Chinese lunar calendar namely, the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and the Pig. The following are Chinese calendar readings that talk about the fate of the other 11 “animal” personalities in the year of the Ox.

The Rat in the Year of the Ox: Love or romance for the Rat persons born in the years 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2008 does not look good as they will be experiencing problems on relationships. The Rat may find that his or her partner is not really the one he or she wants.

The Rat is also discouraged from embarking on adventurous sports as there is an unlucky star for the person in 2009 which represents injuries. The power of this star can be avoided by getting the teeth cleaned by the dentist or through blood donation.

On the other hand, 2009 or the Year of the Ox will still look promising for the Rat in terms of career because of a star that influences leadership and authority. Rat persons who work in the field may benefit from the star.

The Tiger: Persons born in the years 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986 and 1998 should learn to hold their temper in the year of the Ox because there are unlucky stars around them that represent poor human relations. The Tiger should avoid acting on impulse and “must not make any decision when angry.”

But it is really not a bad year for the Tiger after all with the lucky star San Tai shining upon him. This star represents steady progress and career promotion. Tigers who are working with a clerical job can expect this star to work for them. Employees working in large companies and civil servants can also benefit from this star and make some progress.

The Rabbit: Persons born in the Rabbit years of 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987 and 1999 are lucky because of the stars of good relationships that are shining on them in the Year of the Ox. Things will be more stable and favorable for the Rabbit person even after experiencing separations, bad arguments and unstable jobs.

For married Rabbits however, it is advised that they resist temptations or else they might be involved in love triangles. The Rabbit should also be aware of the star that represents financial losses that could be due to spending money in entertaining friends and lovers. For single Rabbits, it is a good year to pursue an existing love interest because there is a good chance that they will be accepted.

The Dragon: Joyful events such as getting married, getting pregnant, attending parties, or buying a new house could help prevent the occurrence of misfortunes in the life of the Dragon person born in the years 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988 and 2000. These things would counter negative energies and prevent any mishap to happen.

But the Dragon person should avoid any forms of investment or gambling as he or she would likely to be losing. Male Dragons are advised not to be around influential people as this might bring them troubles caused by females. One way to avoid problems is by being constantly on the move as this can help minimize the effects of the negative energies.

The Snake: For Snake persons born in the year 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 and 2001, they should be ready for abrupt fluctuations in sales performances. This is where “saving for the rainy days” would help the Snake in making it through future financial difficulties.

On career development for both wage earners and entrepreneurs, the Year of the Ox looks promising with the improvement of leadership skills as well as getting assistance from influential people which can lead to promotion and salary increases.

Snake persons who have been in a relationship for quite some time would finally be married. However, the Snake should watch out for bad love triangles.

The Horse: There is a star for Horse persons born in the years 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990 and 2002 that has influence on career. The star represents bravery, stamina and persistence in achieving success. It also signifies better social status and leadership skills which would benefit the Horse who is involved in the upper management, disciplinary teams and key positions in large corporations.

Another star signifies animal bites so that Horses persons who work with pets and animals are advised to take extra caution. There is also a star that means good luck in wealth and career, but the Horse and his family members could suffer poor health and injury on limbs and some teeth problems.

The Sheep: Persons born in the Year of the Sheep 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991 and 2003 can look forward to better love and romance in 2009. An unmarried Sheep person will be luckier in the Year of the Ox than the previous years when it comes to dating, while those who are already in a relationship would be looking forward to a more harmonious relationship.

However, the Sheep person should watch out for love triangles that destroy harmonious relationships. The Sheep person should learn to stay quiet and just work harder, remembering to mind his own business and not sticking his nose on others, otherwise, it could only lead him to more trouble.

The Monkey: Travel seems to be a good option in the year of the Ox for the Monkey person born in the year 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992 and 2004. The star of Mobility is the reason why the Monkey can have better fortune traveling. He can actually look to a better career in distant places. Earning income through traveling is very much possible, and the more travelling the Monkey makes, the more income he earns. The year 2009 is also a good year for the Monkey to take further education as he would have excellent luck in taking examinations.

The Rooster: Things may not look all too good for Rooster persons born in 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993 and 2005 in the Year of the Ox as he should brace himself and be prepared for oncoming pressures. But just like the Dragon, the saying “one joyful event can offset three possible mishaps” is applicable to the Rooster. This means that the Rooster should work extra hard to make these joyful events happen, like getting married, getting pregnant or buying a new house. This way, any negative vibrations waiting for him could be offset and he will be having a more favorable fortune in 2009.

The Dog: The Dog person born in the years 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006 should brace himself for many changes in 2009. Dogs are also advised to stay on the move or be mobile. By being always on the move and consciously introducing changes to his life, the Dog can turn negative energy into good ones. It would be a good year to pursue plans of working abroad or going overseas, same goes true in renovating the house.

The Pig: Pig persons born in the years 1911, 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995 and 2007 that are already in a relationship might suddenly get married in the Year of the Ox. Married ones on the other hand, might get pregnant. There are powerful lucky stars in 2009 which will favorably influence love and career for Pig persons this year.

However, there some unlucky stars that will make the Pig feel emotionally distressed, frustrated and feel more alienated. This signifies that the Pig would encounter trials and difficulties before finally succeeding. It is therefore advised that the Pig should persevere.
