P12 million shelters for Kalinga typhoon victims

TABUK CITY, Kalinga— The Department of Social Welfare and Development released P12-million for construction of core shelters, emergency shelter assistance, and livelihood projects for victims of calamities in the province.
The program also has a cash-for-work component for typhoon victims displaced from their homes to cope with the difficulties that accompany stormy weather conditions that is expected to batter this region several occasions more this rainy season.
DSWD program head Jessie Chelim said that part of the amount for livelihood assistance will go to eight organized Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) groups and Self-employment Para saKaunlaran (SKA) in Pinukpuk, Pasil, Balbalan and this city.
These seek to provide calamity victims with a normal source of livelihood to help their families hurdle the difficulties posed by past weather disturbances.
In Pinukpuk, recipients of the livelihood assistance are Cawagayan SKA, Salun-at Junction SKA, and Bayao SEA-K.
For Pasil are Malucsad SEA-K and Guina-ang SEA-K. Balbalan are Pantikian-Solong SKA and Pantikian – Old Bullalayao SKA. Tabuk is allotted P1.3 million for one group.

The biggest allocation in the amount of P3.6 million went to Tabuk Core Shelter Assistance Program benefitting 100 families.
Under the Emergency Shelter Assistance, the amount of P1.9 million was allocated to Pinukpuk for 636 beneficiaries, P1.6 million for Lubuagan ESA for 518 families, and P1.2 million for Tabuk ESA.
Chelim said the rest of the assistance ranging from P100,000.00 to P800,000.00 went to cash for work for the repair of daycare centers. “Except for Tanudan, there are 2,784 total beneficiaries who were victims of typhoon Juan last year in the six municipalities and Tabuk city,” he said.
