Multi-million Bontoc road infra projects inaugurated

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Rep. MaximoDalog and provincial Highways district engineer John T. Marquez led the inauguration of road projects worth millions of pesos in this capital town last week.

This formally opened the Government Center Cadre Road and another road project. The event was attended by officials of Highways, province and barangays of Poblacion, Samoki and Caluttit here.

Dalog said the inauguration was part of the transparency program of the national government.

The implementation of the rehabilitation of the Bontoc-Cadre Road project amounting to P21,222,000 was bid out to Mountaineer’s Engineering and Services.

Fund for this project has been sourced out from the 2011 regular fund of the Mountain Province District Engineering Office.

Project works include upgrading of the existing asphalt pavement to Portland Cement Concrete Pavement and reconstruction of drainages at intermittent sections starting at the Provincial Capitol up to the junction fronting the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist at Sac-angan, Bontoc and are targeted to be completed sometime on February next year given the 164 days contract duration.

On the other hand, the completed improvement along Government Center to Cadre Road with funding amounting to P2,508,117.50 and under Cluster 2011 for various Poblacion Bontoc Roads was contracted out to LAB General Engineering.

Said project also includes the rehabilitation of Motorpool to Eyeb and PC-Barracks Road sections.

Construction works for these projects were completed July 24, a month ahead of schedule considering change orders made due to road-right-of-way issues such as obstructions caused by private fences, electric posts and water pipes.

Such orders were necessary to suit the need of the people who would be utilizing the road and in consonance to Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson’s advocacy on “Right project at the right cost and right quality for the right people.”

Similarly, other roads within the central town of Bontoc will be concreted as Dalog said he was committed to concreting of various local road sections.

Dalog also pledged concreting of the road going to the Bureau of Fire Protection at Loc-ong.

Meanwhile, the improvement of the Bontoc-Cadre Road will provide a safe, better and easier access road and subsequently will improve the living standards of the people in the district.

Said development will also aide in the fast delivery of services especially in Bontoc General Hospital, OPAg, NIA and other key offices in the delivery of public services.

It will also promote a better access road to the Maligcong Rice Terraces being endorsed as another tourism destination in the province.
