LA TRINIDAD, Benguet- A long term solution to the garbage problem of this highly-progressive capital town has been introduced by a foreign private firm and local officials vowed to unanimously support the project.
After presented by U.S-based Filipino engineer Jose U. Utrillo, president and chief executive officer of the Concord Pacific Investment Holdings, Inc., their company’s state-of-the art technology and one of its kind in the world in addressing garbage problem, local officials here headed by Mayor Greg Abalos and the sangguniangbayan members agreed to make a resolution accepting and hosting the garbage-fueled power plant to be put up here.
Engineer Utrillo was invited by local officials here recently to present before the council his company’s technology in solving the garbage problem.
Utrillo said his company will shoulder all expenses which runs to hundreds of millions of dollars to put up the project which he described as unique and one of its kind in the country.
After presenting his company’s profile and program, local officials here were apparently impressed and immediately appealed to Utrillo to construct one in this capital town whose garbage problem has become alarming due to a law -- Republic Act 9003 which requires local government units to close all open dump sites and construct new ones.
To hasten the project, local officials here set Sept. 9 for a symposium and public consultation as required by law to let the public aware of the project being proposed by the municipality of La Trinidad.
