TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- The Register of Deeds in this province is the country’s top performer in free patent distribution for calendar year 2011 under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

Robert Benitez of ROD said their office distributed 2,919 titles in 2011. “The titling of these lands was funded by CARP,” he said adding there are still other titles on process and expected to be distributed this year.

He said titling of lands under CARP will not only legalize ownership but will also help in revenue generation of government since local tax collection comes from real property tax.

“The more titles issued, the more it is easier to collect real property tax,” Benitez said as he also called on land owners to claim their titles at their office and for local officials to help in land registration through survey and titling.

Because of this achievement, lawyer Ma. Elnora Puday, provincial head of ROD here, was awarded a plaque of appreciation in recognition for her dedicated participation in implementing the CARP program of the government.
