TUGUEGARAO CITY -- A family of four has been discharged from a hospital here after eating contaminated salted eggs June 23.

Reports identified the victims as Milton Macababbad, 62, and his children, Mark Neil, 19, and Mylene Sison, 35, and her husband Herbert, 33.

The victims, all residents of Barangay Linao Norte in this city, Cagayan’s capital, were rushed to the People’s General Hospital after experiencing dizziness, vomiting and stomach ache minutes after having a breakfast of salted eggs which they had bought at a cheaper price as these already had cracks.

Dr. James Guzman, city health officer, said the cracks allowed bacteria to contaminate the salted eggs.

Later in the same day, 58 elementary pupils in upland Commonal village in Solano town in this province manifested symptoms of poisoning after eating fruits of the tagumbao or jatropha tree.

The children were discharged from hospitals after an overnight treatment and observation.

The provincial and municipal governments shouldered their medical expenses.
