BAGUIO CITY -- College-level students of Baguio City are invited to submit essays
revolving around the theme “The South Africa Experience: Insights for Baguio
and the Cordilleras.”
The ongoing South Africa Month festivities
provide students a string of free events like a student forum and movie
screenings at Casa Vallejo’s Cinematheque where they can gain insights.
Students can also conduct their own web-based research to complete their
essays.
South Africa Ambassador to the Philippines, Hon.
Agnes Nyemande-Pisto reveals, “The Philippines and South Africa can learn a
whole lot of insights from each other. Our embassy invites the Cordillera youth
to be touched by our films and documentaries and put their thoughts in writing
as an effective means of driving progressive change to society.”
An educational support fund of P10,000 awaits the
student with the best essay. A special prize will also go to the student whose
essay revolves around the theme “Mining as a Means for Development.” Other
prizes include books, CDs and refreshment packs. Awarding will be done during
the closing of South Africa Month at Hill Station on December 13, 2012.
A student may submit multiple entries as long as
these are original and not previously printed. Entries should be no more
than 1200 words, double spaced, using Arial Font, size 12. Entries should be
submitted via email to SA.essaycontest@gmail.com by 07 Dec 2012.
Entries will be reviewed based on Content and
Relevance to theme (40%), Composition (35%), and Originality (25%).
