DOST accepting project proposals from Kalinga

TABUK CITY, Kalinga - - The Department of
Science and Technology is now accepting project proposals from municipal
government units.
Based on agreement between DOST and LGUs,
each municipal LGU is required to at least submit two science and
technology-based proposals.
Dexy Catacutan of DOST-Kalinga said 14
proposals had already been submitted. “Other municipalities have not submitted
yet. We encourage local government units to prepare at least two proposals for
inclusion to the DOST-Kalinga 2013 work and financial plan,” she said.
Municipal planning and development officers
were designated coordinators on science and technology activities in their
respective LGUs since they can propose and plan for their respective LGUs.
She said all proposals submitted will be
validated before submission for approval. “It can be in the form of training,
forum, or equipment,” Catacutan said adding “they are all given as grants for
organizations and refundable to individuals who are beneficiaries under Set-Up
program.”
DOST officers in Cordillera region will meet
in Baguio City on January 22 for a management committee conference that
includes the validation of proposals,” Catacutan said.
She said six peoples organizations were
assisted last year. They were either assisted through product processing,
promotion, labeling, packaging, and marketing. –PIA
