Man arrested for illegal gun in Abra

BANGUED,
Abra -- A man was arrested by police for allegedly having in his possession an
unlicensed firearm with bullets at a police checkpoint based here along
Capitolation Street, Zone I Tuesday.
Senior
Supt. Roberto Quinto Soriano, deputy regional director for administration of
the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera and Abra provincial police
officer-in-charge, identified the arrested individual as Romeo Avila Acosta, a
resident of Bangued.
Initial
police investigation showed joint operatives of the 1st Maneuver Company,
Regional Public Safety Battalion and the Bangued Municipal Police Station were
conducting a mobile police checkpoint operation when they arrested Acosta who
was later found in possession of one Cal.45 Armscor pistol with SN 1354643 with
a magazine loaded with eight bullets.
A
complaint for violation of Presidential Decree
166 as amended by Republic Act 8294 was filed against Acosta at
the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor, Banguedbut the suspect was released by
the Office without bail.
