TRINIDAD, Benguet -- More than a thousand individuals flocked to the provincial
capitol for a jobs fair Nov. 6 – 7 as part of the 2013 Adivay Festival and the
province’s 113th founding anniversary this November.
Labor and Employment officer Gina Yog-a said
of the 1,564 applicants, 57 were hired on-the-spot for
local employment while 67 for overseas.
For local, most of those hired qualified
under sales while overseas were mostly domestic helpers and some skilled
workers.
Those hired on-the-spot for overseas work
will not pay any placement fee but chargeable to the employers abroad, Yog-a
informed.
According to Yog-a, majority of
the applicants are qualified but subject for final interview, submission
of documentary requirements, and medical certificate.
Ten local groups and companies participated
in the Jobs Fair while 12 recruiting manpower agencies for jobs abroad.
The local companies offered jobs for sales such
as merchandisers, cashiers and baggers, utilities such as janitors, call center
staff and agents, hotel workers, teachers, bank tellers, construction workers,
and integrated circuit assemblers.
Available jobs abroad are skilled
workers for Middle East, New Zealand and Singapore and domestic helpers for
Middle East, Hongkong, Mayanmar, and Singapore, according to Yog-a.
Yog-a said recruiting
agencies noticed applicants lacked experience, were fresh
graduates or did not meet age requirement of being at least 23 years old, for jobs abroad.
There were some urgent vacancies abroad but
applicants lacked requirements such as passports and medical certificates, she
added.
Yog-a said in
future job fairs, they will ensure early dissemination of the event
including announcement of documents to
bring such as resume, certificate of employment, passport, and 2 x 2 ID picture
such so that job applicants will be prepared especially for hiring.
