Sea products from P’sinan free from red tide: BFAR

DAGUPAN CITY – Fish and
seashells harvested from the four coastal areas in Pangasinan are free from red
tide toxin and are safe for human consumption, according to a latest advisory
from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Based from a BFAR advisory
issued Dec. 11, laboratory analyses conducted on fish, squids, shrimps, crabs
and seashells such as mussels and oysters taken from the waters of Bolinao,
Anda, Alaminos City and Wawa in Bani, showed no presence of algae that produces
red tide toxin.
BFAR regional director Nestor
Domenden however, said that as precautionary measure, the local government
units were told to require market inspectors, quarantine officers,
administrators to demand clearance for fish and seashells transported to their
area from other provinces and municipalities.
Domenden said the measure was
meant to ensure that fish and shellfish brought to their markets did not come
from areas found positive of red tide toxin.
