Binay
back-up vehicle falls down Banaue road, 4 hurt
BANAUE, Ifugao -- A back-up vehicle of Vice
President Jejomar C. Binay fell off the side of the highway near Banaue town
proper here around 11:15 a.m., Nov. 14.
The Vice President was
on his way to Banaue to turn over medical equipment and inaugurate a senior
citizens' building.
The four passengers
were taken by ambulance to the Good News Clinic and Hospital where they
received immediate medical attention.

photographer, will be brought to Manila because of a shoulder injury.
CIDG
men arrest 5 rapists in Cordillera
BAGUIO CITY – Five suspected rapists were
successively arrested by detectives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection
Group in the Cordillera following the service of their warrants of arrest
issued by the courts.
Senior Supt. Jimmy
Catanes, CIDG-CAR regional director, said the successive arrests of the rape
suspects were realized through the combined efforts of their detectives, the
family members and relatives of the victims and the community who provided them
vital information in relation to the whereabouts of the suspects.
The latest be to
collared was Norman Palorina Terre who was arrested along Abanao Street, Baguio
City for two counts of qualified rape and three counts of acts of
lasciviousness committed against an 11-year old girl from Quirino Hill here.
His arrest was virtue
of a warrant of arrest issued March 10 by Judge Ivan Kim Morales, of the
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 59, Baguio City.
No bail was recommended
for his rape case whil P36,000 and P12,000, respectively, were recommended for
case of acts of lasciviousness.
Catanes identified the
second arrested rape suspect as Agosto Pontino Kadjang, a resident of
Fil-Am barangay, Baguio City for statury rape with no bail recommended by
virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Francis Buliyat of the RTC Branch
9, La Trinidad, Benguet, for allegedly sexually abusing his 3-year old niece
from Kabayan, Benguet.
The third rape suspect
arrested by CIDG agents with the assistance of the Mountain Province Police
Office was named as Romualdo Aligmano Ngina, a resident of Kias, Camp 7, Baguio
City, who was collared for six counts of rape and three counts of violation of
Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and Children by virtue of a
warrant of arrest issued by Judge Joseph PatNaan of the RTC Branch 35, Bontoc,
Mountain Province.
No bail was
recommended for his six counts of rape cases while P72,000 was recommended for
his cases violating the RA 9262.
The fourth rape
suspect to be arrested by detectives was Crizaldo Javier Faundo of Central
Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet for rape for allegedly abusing a 13-year old girl
from Grade I to Grade VI and the last reported sexually abuse committed on his
victim was in April 2013.
No bail was
recommended for his rape case by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Francis
Buliyat of the RTC Branch 9, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Catanes named the
fifth arrested rape suspect as AmanteGallaDaproza, who was arrested in barangay
Cayos, Quirino, Ilocos Sur, for eight counts of rape for reportedly raping a
16-year old girl from Bilong, Tubo, Abra since she was 8 years old and the last
reported abuse on her was in October 2013.
No bail was
recommended by Judge Rafael Alzate of the RTC Branch 58, Bangued, Abra for his
temporary liberty.
According to Catanes,
all the arrested five rape suspects are now detained at the different detention
centers where their cases are being heard.
17 'bar
girls' rescued in Benguet town
BUGUIAS, Benguet – Seventeen “bar girls”,
including several minors, were rescued from girlie bars in Barangay Abatan here
Monday night.
Social welfare
officers backed up by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-North
Central Cordillera) who were tipped off about these young girls working in
nightspots in the town swooped down on several night establishments to rescue
the girls from exploitation.
Department of Social
Welfare and Development-Cordillera director Leonardo Reynoso said the youngest
girl was 14 while the oldest was 21.
Four women who were
managers, handlers, and establishment cashiers voluntarily went with the
authorities though, and Reynoso said they will face charges.
Some of the girls have
to undergo dental procedures to scientifically ascertain if they were indeed
minors “because they might just fake their ages”. Some names are not
appearing before the National Statistics Office database, Reynoso said.
Six of the girls were
from San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan; one from San Rafael, also in Bulacan; four
from Region 1 (Ilocos Sur; Alaminos, Pangasinan; San Gabriel, La Union and
Agoo, also in La Union); six from Cordillera ( 3 Mankayan, Benguet; 1
Paracelis, Mt. Province; 1 Bauko, Mt. Province; 1 Itogon, Benguet).
The authorities
“raided” the “bar girls” around 10 p.m. Monday night and were immediately
brought to Baguio City for processing.
Reynoso said the
rescued bar girls arrived in Baguio City with the authorities at around 4:30
a.m., “lacked sleep” and needed time “to pack their things."
Senior Supt. Jimmy
Catanes, regional officer of the CIDG-North Central Cordillera refused to
divulge the names of the rescued bar girls and also their “handlers” so
as not to create any stigma on them as they were in a very sensitive situation.
Minors will be turned
over to their parents, Reynoso said, “after the DSWD had assessed the parental
capability of their parents.”
But the four
“handlers” will be facing charges.
Night spots are
thriving in the town as it is a commercial center in Northern Benguet for
vegetable traders and mining in nearby Mankayan town.
The area is also being
touted as “Benguet’s Little Las Vegas” because of the flourishing gambling
operations in the area.
'Summary
execution' victim found along Benguet highway
TUBA, Benguet - Another alleged victim
of “summary execution” was found along the infamous “Poyopoy area” along Marcos
Highway in Taloy Sur here.
Already decomposing,
the male victim’s ankles were tied, his neck was tied with an iron wire and fan
belt and his eyes and mouth wrapped with a masking tape, was found dumped on
Sunday afternoon by a resident, said Benguet police director Sr. Supt. Rodolfo
Azurin Jr.
The authorities have
yet to identify the victim.
Two
ladies try to send marijuana through mail
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Two unidentified ladies
left in a huff around 2:15, March 14 after they were told by an LBC employee to
open a package to a certain Rodney Fromaran of Barangay 5, Coron, Palawan.
It turned out it was a
brick of dried marijuana.
The illegal drugs were
taken by city police after LBC management informed them of the incident in a
text message.
Construction
worker nabbed with P88,426 stolen payroll money
BAGUIO CITY – An employee of DM Capital
Ventures Building Construction here was arrested around 8:20 p.m., March 14
after he allegedly stole payroll money of the firm worth P88,426
A police report
identified the suspect as Larry F. Mamuyak 29, single, stay-in
storeroom-in-charge of the firm and resident of Pongpong, Sto. Tomas, La Union.
Mamuyak was arrested
by Rafael Quillopa y Batara, 32, a security guard of DMCVBC.
Police investigation
bared the suspect was caught by the security guard in possession of the money
wrapped in a white plastic bag that was allegedly stolen at around 3 p.m. in
same building.
The suspect was about
to leave the site when he was frisked by the security guard who found the
stolen money in his possession.
The suspect was turned
over to the responding personnel of Station 5 police who prepared charges

Bicycle
‘thief’ forgiven; walks free in Mankayan
MANKAYAN, Benguet – A suspect who stole a
bicycle worth P85, 000 owned by Alberto Bilag Wayasen, 48, of Cervantes, Ilocos
Sur and presently residing here is now scot free after the owner forgave him.
A police report said
the bicycle was displayed in front of the Dampulas Auto Supply, Aurora Street,
Poblacion wen stole by the suspect.
Police pursued the
suspect and arrested him.
He was later
identified as John Michael Dacanay Esquera, 25, of Cervantes Road and resident
of Poblacion here. No case was filed against the suspect as both parties

wanted persons nabbed for crimes in Cordillera
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Five wanted persons were arrested by police
who served arrest warrants in the Cordillera early last week.
In La Trinidad, the
No. 5 top most wanted person landed in jail Monday afternoon after she was
arrested in her residence by Bakun town police.
Senior Supt. Rodolfo
Azurin, Benguet provincial police director, identified the arrested female
suspect as AngelynMacaslangBogsit, 21,
ofMacbas, Madaymen, Kibungan, Benguet.
Judge Marybelle D.
Marinas, of the Regional Trial Court issued her warrant for estafa with a
recommended bail of P40, 000.
Four TMWPs voluntarily
surrendered to authorities.
In Lamut, Ifugao, Supet. Brent Majaco,
Ifugao police officer in charge, confirmed the No. 5 TMWP who surrendered
Monday morning to Lagawe police as Alfonso BantiyanTuguinay, 42, farmer of
Pugol, Lamut.
Judge Romeo Habbiling,
of the RTC Branch 14, issued his warrant for the rape.
On February 2012,
Tuguinay was reportedly drunk and went to the house of a 33- year old victim
where he threatened her with a firearm and forcibly raped her.
In Kalinga, Senior
Supt. Victor Wanchakan, provincial police director said that three TMWPs ranked number 2,3 and 4 in the
province simultaneously surrendered to
operatives of the Kalinga Intelligence Branch and Provincial
Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group, Regional Intelligence Div. and
members of the NELCIDU, Kalinga CIDG at Barangay Bagumbayan, Tabuk City, March
14.
They were identified
as Mencio Alunday, 50, Edgar Buslig, 42, and Andrew Bilwayan, 48, all farmers
and residents of Bagumbayan, Tabuk City.
All had warrants of
arrest for murder issued by Judge AnastacioAnghad, of RTC Branch 25.
Seven other wanted
persons were also arrested March 14 and 17.
A homicide suspect
identified as MandingMangibinAwas, 26, farmer,
was arrested in his residence in SitioPisnadan, Tubaday, Santol, La
Union, for frustrated homicide with a recommended bail of P100, 000.00.
His arrest was
followed by the arrest of three suspects for theft, namely DaniloJalonRapsing
Jr. a.k.a. “Danny”, 28, taxi driver, and a resident of
Sarok Camp 7, Baguio City, who was arrested in front of Padis Point Disco
bar along Bautista Drive, Rizal Park ; Louise Glen Pagaduan Llaneta, 29 of
Lower Brookside, both of Baguio City whrei both had recommended bail of P100,
000.
For acts of
lasciviousness, Crisanto Trino Gama, 49, miner, and a resident of Brookspoint,
Aurora Hill, Baguio City was arrested at Sitio Liang, Barangay Loakan, Itogon,
Benguet with a recommended bail of P80,000 while Edgar Wadwadan Daliyong aka
Edgar, 44, was arrested in his residence at Nambaran, Tabuk City.
Other arrested wanted
persons was a minor who was nabbed at Otek St., Baguio City, for theft with a
recommended bail of P20,000; Anna Liza Lumanglas Piluden, 42, businesswoman,
native of Quezon province and a resident of Longlong, La Trinidad, Benguet
who was nabbed at Justice Hall, Baguio City, for three counts of
Violation of Batas Pambansa 22 with a
recommended bail of P6,000.00 and Marissa CabbabNgipol aka "Mariz",
34, businesswoman, who was nabbed in her residence at km 3, Asin Road,
Baguio City, for estafa with a recommended bail of P50, 000..
Cordillera
cops enhance search and rescue capabilities
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet - To
enhance competence of the policemen, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera
conducted a 5-day search and rescue training for 72 selected PNP
participants composed of nine teams, one from each province, Baguio and two
from the regional headquarters here.
The training that
started last week was handled by 911 On Call personnel led by Paeng Valencia
and Dr. Manuel Quirino, who equipped law enforcers with basic and updated
skills on search and rescue operations.
Participants were
taught strategies, skills, and technique on how to properly handle victims in
different types of situations or disasters.
Before the graduation
ceremony, the teams were made to compete with each other, demonstrating techniques on how to properly
handle victims in different scenarios that ended with Apayao team as the
champion, followed by Kalinga as 1st runner up and Baguio City as the 2nd
runner up.
The champion received
a certificate, trophy and a cash of P5,000 plus a SAR blue box with basic
equipment, the 1st runner up received a certificate, a trophy and cash of
P3,000 while the 2nd runner received a certificate and P2,000 cash.
Special awards were
also given to the teams that displayed best performances in the different
fields of the SAR training.
In his message, Chief
Supt. Isagani R. Nerez, PRO-COR regional sirector, congratulated the
participants and acknowledged support of
members of the 911 On Call Incorporated, the Office of the Civil
Defense, Bureau of Fire Protection and other volunteer individual for making
the SAR training a success. \
He encouraged
participants to nurture the skills they have acquired and put into practice the
same in order to better serve our community.
