Man wounded in second
ambush by trike-riding men
TABUK CITY – A certain Aldrin Patti, 32, was
wounded when motorcycle-riding men strafed the house of his cousin, Agustin
Mendoza here on Dangwa St. last week.
The attack was
reportedly a follow-up to an ambush April 6 that left Mendoza wounded.
The gunmen were
reportedly irked upon learning that Mendoza survived the attack, said Senior
Supt. Victor Wanchakan, Kalinga police director.
Patti was rushed to
the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound while Mendoza was recuperating
from a gunshot to the chest as of press time. Investigators have yet to
determine the motive for the twin attacks.
2 nabbed
for illegal guns in Abra checkpoint
BANGUED, Abra -- Members of the Abra
Provincial Public Safety Company arrested two individuals caught in possession
of firearms and ammunition without documents at a checkpoint here along
Barangay Bangbangar Monday night.
Senior Supt. Benjamin
M. Lusad, Abra provincial police director, identified the suspects
as Alejandro Rabang Aquino Jr. and Leonard Soliven Rosario who were
intercepted 30 minutes apart at the same checkpoint.
The former, driving
his tricycle was carrying a Cal. 22 handgun with a magazine loaded with seven
bullets while the latter, driving a motorcycle was found in possession of a
Cal.38 pistol loaded with six bullets.
Both are now under the
custody of police while cases for illegal guns are being prepared against them.
Abra bocaps surrender
firearms to police
LAGAYAN, Abra – Two barangay chiefs of this
town and nearby Langiden respectively surrendered firearms to local police last
week.
Pulot, Lagayan barangay chief Leonard Jimenez Donato surrendered an MK2 grenade to Senior Insp.
Apdilon Chiday Galong here Monday morning.
This, while barangay
captain Feliciano Bueno of Quillat, Langiden, Abra, turned in a shotgun without
ammunition to Senior Inspector Alberto Alones Carame, Jr. afternoon of
April 6.
Both grenade and
firearm are now under custody of Lagayan
and Langiden police.
Drug trader cornered in
Baguio hotel pot session
BAGUIO CITY – A 31-year-old suspected illegal
drug trader and user was arrested after a concerned citizen reported that a pot
session was ongoing here at a hotel near the city boundary to La Trinidad, Benguet
about 12:30 p.m. April 6.
Chief Supt. Isagani R.
Nerez, regional police director identified the suspect as Christian Sadeek Del
Prado Alvar, 31, here of Quezon Hill.
Members of city
police, Anti-Illegal Drug Operations Special Task Group, Intelligence Unit and
Public Safety Company confiscated from the suspect shabu weighing 1 gram valued
at P6,000, plastic sachet with shabu residue and drug paraphernalia.
P800,000 marijuana
burned in Kapangan
KAPANGAN, Benguet -- More than P840,000
worth of marijuana plants were uprooted by police here in Sitio Sayangan,
Pudong April 3.
Police burned 4,200
pieces of fully grown marijuana plants planted on a public lot.
Samples were taken by
police as evidence.
No cultivator was
arrested during the raid.
Four jai alai players arrested
in Tublay
TUBLAY, Benguet -- Four men were arrested for
illegal gambling here at Sitio Acop,
Barangay Caponga April 4.
Senior Supt. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., Benguet
police director said gamblers were caught that morning by police.
He identified the
gambling suspects as Rocky Dumaci Basquial, 44; Alberto Tomita Demgas, 65;
Elpidio Dumaci Basquial, 52, all unemployed; and store keeper, Esther Boyay Langbayan,
44, all residents who were nabbed playing balls (Jai Alai) in Acop.
The arresting team of
the Regional Intelligence Division, Benguet Police Provincial Office andTublay Municipal Police Station
confiscated gambling paraphernalia and
cash bets amounting to P110,838.
The “gamblers” were
jailed while charges for illegal gambling were prepared against them.
Two men caught cutting
trees in Atok
ATOK, Benguet -- Two men were arrested after
while cutting pine logs here in Barangay Topdak morning of April 4.
Suspects were identified as Julius Tobias
Aokip, 20 and Romel Dilag Sayud, 19 both residents of Km 24, Salidet, Atok.
A team of Benguet
Police Provincial Public Safety Company and Atok police including environment
personnel confiscated a chainsaw including sawn pine logs from them.
Arrested suspects were
jailed while charges of illegal logging were prepared against them.
PRO-COR commended by
Advisory Council
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The
Police Regional Office Cordillera headed by Chief Supt. Isagani R. Nerez was “highly recommended and appreciated” by
the Regional Advisory Council led by RAC chairman Gov, Nestor Fongwan, during a
meeting here Monday afternoon.
PROCOR was cited for
achievement in passing initiation stage of
Performance Governance System (PGS) certification process garnering
highest score of 97.7%, highest among
PNP units.
The Golden Eagle Award
was bestowed on PROCOR as a result of this evaluation rating in recognition of
its various strategic initiatives for its implementation and
institutionalization of PATROL Plan 2030.
Recently, Baguio
City Police Office and Benguet Police Provincial Office also underwent PGS certification
process for initiation stage which will be followed by five police provincial
offices the coming months.
Supt. Porfiro Calagan,
chief of Regional Police Strategy Management Unit presented to RAC members
scorecard 2013 year end report wherein PROCOR surpassed 36 measures and 52
sub-measures except 12 measures as recorded in scorecard.
On PROCOR scorecard
targets for 2014, targets had been set. However, there was a drastic reduction
in measures because in 2013 scorecard, these were 100% complied with which
required same commitment for succeeding years.
As a way of monitoring
targets, PRO-COR will observe outlook system wherein all concerned offices will
report accomplishments to attain or surpass targets for 2014.
PRO-COR will devise
and implement other projects and activities along with implementation of PNP
PATROL plan 2030 within the region.
The office also aims
to lead other police regional offices in attaining the compliance stage of the
performance governance system.
P1.7 narra seized, 4 men
held; charges set vs six ‘operators’
BAAY-LICUAN, Abra -- More than 1.7 million
worth of lumber was confiscated while four persons were arrested here last
week, even as five suspected illegal logging operators would be charged in
court.
A police report said
the Abra Police Provincial Office received information from a concerned citizen
about a group of persons hauling and loading narra lumber in two dump trucks
here in Sitio Baquero, Barangay Nalbuan, afternoon of April 5.
Insp. Julius Basinga,
town police chief set up a checkpoint as a result along the Abra-Kalinga Road
and flagged down the two dump trucks owned by the Golden Summit Corp. bearing
plate numbers WIW 361 and UQA 269.
According to Basinga,
occupants of the two dump trucks loaded with narra lumber presented a permit
but when police verified with personnel of the Provincial Department of
Environment and Natural Resources Abra, office, it was found out papers were
invalid that resulted to arrest of suspects Monday afternoon.
Senior Supt. Benjamin
M. Lusad, Abra police director, identified arrested as: Hector Busto Pulido,
31, of Barangay Bobonot, Dasul; Melven Valdez Balisalisa, 32, of Barangay,
Malimpin, Dasul, Jhonathan Bacurin Mina, 40, of Magsaysay, Alaminos and
Prince Rivera Pobletin, 38, of Bacuit, Mabini, all drivers from Pangasinan.
Lusad said other
individuals who will be included in the charges for violation of Presidential
Decree 705 or the Forestry Code of the Philippines who claimed ownership of the
lumber are; Edgardo Sanchez Burdeos, of No. 8505 Sandoval Ave., Pinagbuhatan,
Pasig City; Fredolin Gapuz Vallangca, of Caanawan, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija,
Jenny Granado, of Ubbog, Bangued, Abra; and Kwok Leung Lau, 58, of No. 546
Evangelista St., Quiapo, Manila.
Lusad said narra
lumber had a total volume of 11,969.52 board feet with an estimated value of
P1,795,428.00.
A case for violation
of illegal logging would be filed against arrested persons along with the
“owners” before the Abra provincial prosecutor’s office.
Chief Supt. Isagani Nerez,
Cordillera police director cited police in the operation and appealed to the
public for support to police under his leadership in its fight against criminal
activities in the region and protect forests from further destruction.
Man caught cutting pine
logs; 2 intercepted along Halsema
CAMP DANGWA, Benguet-- Three men were arrested in Bokod and Tublay
towns in Benguet for illegal logging
last week.
Rey Mayong Menis Tilcag,
19, of Barangay Nawal, Bokod, Benguet was caught cutting pine logs by members
of the Benguet Provincial Public Safety Company, Atok and Bokod town police,
Regional Intelligence Division (R2) and environment officials at Nawal March
31.
A chainsaw and sawn
pine lumber were confiscated from him.
The following day on
April 1, two men were arrested
transporting lumber at km 13, Halsema Highway.
Tublay police received
information a white Isuzu jeep with plate no. EBN 569 loaded with pine lumber
was traversing Halsema towards Baguio
City.
They established
checkpoint along the highway and flagged down said vehicle.
The driver identified
as William Camangi Sad-ang, 33, of Balenben, Irisan Baguio City and his
companion Steve Bayeng Bat-il, 19 of Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet were
arrested after they failed to present documents.
Police recorded
165 pieces of lumber worth P26,322.
The three arrested
individuals together with the items confiscated are now under the custody of
the concerned police stations while cases for illegal logging were prepared
against them.
Minor rapist falls, 7
other wanted persons arrested
CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad,
Benguet – Police arrested a minor for rape and seven other wanted
persons in Cordillera on April 1.
Senior Supt. Rodolfo
Azurin, Benguet police director disclosed
Benguet’s No. 2 top most wanted person was a minor residing in Daclan,
Amlimay, Buguias, Benguet who raped his 4-year-old cousin in December 2013.
Buguias police led by
Senior Insp. Benson Macli-ing, officer-in-charge, arrested the suspect in
Abatan, Buguias
around 12:10 nooon that day.
Judge Agapito K.
Laoagan, of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 64 issued his arrest warrant for
rape with no bail recommended.
This, as seven other
wanted persons were arrested on the same day by virtue of warrants of arrest
issued by various courts.
Wilson Prillana Casubat
a.k.a. Lino, 30, farmer, of Mangga, Aringay, La Union was arrested in Poblacion,
La Trinidad, Benguet, for child abuse with bail et at P180,000.00 while
Venancio Lambayon Balaybay, 64, retired PNP member and resident of Purok 7, Upper Pinget, Baguio was
arrested at the lobby of the City Prosecutor's Office, Justice Hall, Baguio
City, for theft with a recommended bail of P150,00.
Five other wanted
individuals were consecutively arrested in their respective residences:
RedentoIlayat Calumpit aka “Reden,” 27, government employee of Apayao
provincial capitol, and resident of Alem, Pudtol, Apayao, was arrested for
violence against women and children with a recommended bail of P30,000.00.
Others
were Butch Melchor Natividad Mejia, 36, driver, of Magsaysay, Tabuk
City, Kalinga was nabbed for theft with bail of P10,000; Epifanio Wadingan, 35,
of Saclit, Sadanga; Fe Palasi Cholping, 56, native of Bila, Bauko, both
government employees and Jannete Pumig-as Wadingan, 32, of Fedlisan, Bontoc,
all residents of Caluttit, Bontoc, Mt. Province who were arrested for bouncing
checks.
