BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan — Receiving information
that some parents and teachers protesting the transfer of the Bayambang Central
School, here, have received death threats, Philippine National Police chief
ordered 24-hour police security in the area.
Director General Alan LM Purisima, PNP chief,
ordered Chief Supt. Roman Aluna Felix, Police Regional Office 1 director, to
ensure no one is hurt in the middle of the controversy over the school’s
relocation.
Earlier, Parents Teachers Association (PTA)
President Filipina Alcantara said she and some of the PTA officers had been
receiving death threats over their protest.
Recently, the group filed a complaint before
the Office of the Ombudsman, claiming alleged irregularity in the decision of
Mayor Ricardo Camacho of unilaterally “transferring the school without notice
or consultation with the Department of Education.”
