Road linking Ilocos, Mankayan to boost tourism, livelihood

MANKAYAN, Benguet — A road project to improve
tourism and boost livelihood in this mining town will push through, said Rep.
Ronald Cosalan.
Cosalan with Vice Gov. Nelson Dangwa, Mankayan
Mayor Materno Luspian Sr., Vice Mayor Dario Banario and Department of Public
Works and Highways officials inspected the project, which starts from Mankingao
stopover to sitio Am-am.
The P128 million road project is funded under
the convergence program of the DPWH, spanning 7 km including pavement and
widening.
It will improve Madalipey View Deck,
overlooking mountain ranges of eastern part of Ilocos Sur, Abra River, Lepanto
Mines, and neighboring towns of Tadian and Bauko in Mountain Province.
The road project is expected to boost
socio-economic and agricultural activities in barangay Balili and seen to
improve vegetable production in the area, considered primary food basket in the
town.
The road will also shorten travel from
Mankayan to nearby Bauko town in Mountain Province via Sadsadan barangay.
Cosalan, chairman of the Congress committee
on public works and infrastructure, worked for approval of the fund, the
biggest funding support to be given to a barangay in Mankayan.
Mankayan was awarded the Seal of Governance
by the Department of the Interior and Local Government reason that the local
government is qualified for huge grant
