SAGADA, Mountain Province – New members from this municipality joined the Knights of Columbus with 55 recruits and 16 transferees from different councils.

In simple ceremonies December last year, the new member  knights were named in recognition of  K of C  founder Mauricio Lidwino of Council No. 15552.

The K of C here in Sagada was formed two years before the  centennial celebration  of  the Roman Catholic Church built at barangay  Kilong in 1914.

The new membership comes as a challenge to the organization in strengthening its Catholic faith and brotherhood observing social services for the community, church youth and  to their families as devoted Christians.

For past years from its formation, the K of C demonstrated their religious activities by providing services to local folks.
The organization led construction of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish at Barangay Tanulong and Divine Mercy Parish at Sitio Ba-ang, Kilong.

The K of C is closely working with the newly constructed Mt. Carmel Church at Nangonogan, Sagada through the efforts of chaplain Father Pablo B. Lumiwan, past Grand Knight engineers Andres Malecdan and Ciano B. Baldo including financial secretary Kapon B. Gomgom-o.

Financial secretary and former councilor Gomgom-o initiated the pavement of the church plaza and stonewalling of the church ground. Chaplain Fr. Lumiwan continued remaining portion of the
ground and the retaining wall until it was fully completed.

Through volunteering efforts, the K of C aided the barangay council of Kilong build fences and restore new pipeline water systems, distribute slippers to children including  implementation of feeding
programs for children.

Last December the K of C sponsored mass wedding and baptism before their retreat to Kiltepan picnic grounds. Residents say the K of C revived the participation of most church goers.
