BAGUIO CITY – The City government headed by
Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, Councilor Elaine Sembrano,
Councilor Joel Alangsab, city and barangay officials honored donors, volunteers
and contributors to the development of the city’s 100-year- old structure here
in simple rites.
Honoured during the Centennial celebration of the Dominican Hill and Retreat House is German volunteer Frank Georg.
Georg has been assisting the City Environment and Parks Management
Office for over 6 years now in landscaping and maintaining the different parks
in the city.
Also honored during the event is Osorio Celso
and the Baguio City National High School Alumni Batch 1985 for donating pots
for the newly launched ‘Lovelock Fence’ at the Dominican Hill.
The Lovelock fence is one of the newest attractions of the
100 year old Dominican Hill and Retreat House, the building which was
constructed in 1913 and completed in 1915.
The Lovelock fence is an innovative park attraction for the city duplicated from the Lovelock fence of Paris Bridge where couples seal their love and commitment.
Lovelocks however is said to have originated from China while
others say it originated from Serbia and since have proliferated in many parts
of the world.
Lovelocks are used by lovers to show their love
and commitment thru locking a padlock on a chain or gate and throwing away the
key to symbolically lock their love forever.
The city’s Lovelock Fence will also symbolically
seal commitments, love, friendship and enduring partnership between friends,
residents and visitors.
The Dominican and Heritage Hill Lovelock Fence is mainly for
tourism attraction purposes where visitors and couples can put their “love
padlocks.”
