BSU celebrates 30th Charter anniversary

--The Benguet State University will celebrate its 30th University Charter
anniversary tomorrow (Jan. 25) sharing its continuing progress and
development towards its vision of being a premier state university in Asia.
The celebration was
earlier launched in a media forum Jan. 14 with OIC president Dr.
Jones Feliciano; Dr. Percyveranda Lubrica, vice president for academic
affairs; Estrelita Daclan, VP for administration and finance and Dr.
Carlito Laurean, VP for research and extension as panelists.
According to Lubrica,
the progress and development of BSU is attested with 100 percent of its
programs certified by the Commission on Higher Education.
Its College of
Agriculture and College of Nutrition and Dietetics were recently certified by
CHED as Centers for Development.
BSU has 31 graduate
courses, 25 masteral, six doctorate and 17 undergraduate courses as well as
elementary and high school. The school has over 13,000 students, he added.
Lubrica said BSU is
generally doing well in licensure or board exams with BSU graduates averaging
higher passing rate than the national average in 8 out of the 10 courses.
Daclan said
development in performance of BSU qualifies it for the national government’s
Performance Based Bonus or PBB.
Another indicator of
excellent performance that Daclan bared was increase in BSU’s allocation from
the General Appropriations Act as approved by the Department of Budget and
Management. From P259 million in 2011, it increased to P273 million in 2012,
P395M in 2013, P420M (2014), P455M last year to P515M this year.
Daclan also reported a
sound financial status for BSU. In 2015, initial income estimate was P355
million that include rentals, subsidy/thrust fund and other income generating
projects.
The Charter Day
anniversary on Jan.25 starts with an Ecumenical service be followed by a
program with Department of Agriculture Cordillera Regional Director Lorenzo
Caranguian as guest speaker.
