Mt. Province LGUs allot P4.3M for CARAA, athletes’ training

athletes are training as the delegation aims to reclaim its third over-all
standing in the forthcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association
(CARAA) meet set Feb. 6-10, 2016 in Baguio City.
The provincial
athletes ranked fifth last year with 18 gold, 46 silver, and 56 bronze
medals.
To improve the
athletic delegation’s performance, Gov. Leonard Mayaen said the CARAA budget
was increased from P3 million to P4.3 million this year, P3,517,907 of which
was provided by the provincial government through its annual appropriation.
The ten municipal
local government units chipped in P400, 000 while the division office of the
Department of Education contributed P368, 000. Of the total budget, P1, 148,360
was allocated purposely for the training of athletes.
Provincial Sports
Development Officer Arnaldo D. Petten is confident that Mountain Province
athletes will come up with an impressive showing in this year’s regional
athletic meet as they started their training just after the provincial athletic
meet.
The provincial
government has hired 18 trainers in a job order status to prepare and train the
athletes in different competed events. “We hired accredited trainers who are
sincere to train our athletes, have the passion and knowledge in the sport, and
are committed to help our athletes win,” he said.
Sports Education
supervisor RosendoCacap said hired trainers shall be training athletes in the
combative, individual, and team sports particularly boxing, taekwondo, wushu,
wrestling, lawn tennis, athletics,
arnis, badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, football/ futsal and
volleyball.
Cacap added that
athletes and their coaches and trainers have been doing their best in the
trainings and are ready to compete with other delegations.
