Total firecracker ban pushed in Abra

BANGUED, Abra – Firecrackcer-related injuries are down in the province this past Yuletide Season, the Provincial Health Office  bared as it urged total firecrackers ban by 2017 to end injuries and death.

Dr. Wilfredo Pascua, OIC Provincial Health Officer, saying there were 25 reported cases down from 30 cases last year. He said majority of victims were children who were injured by ‘pla-pla’, baby rocket, ‘kanyubong’ (devised bamboo canon), PVC gun and whistle bomb.

As observed, the public is now more compliant,  more careful and practical,  Pascua  said as he  claimed that the “IwasPaputok”  as well as the deployment of police  personnel in the different barangays to inspect indiscriminate firing and the use of illegal firecrackers contributed to the decrease of firecrackers related incidents  on New Year’s Eve.

In supporting the total firecrackers ban, he said, “We understand that this is culture. However buying and using one is rather impractical and risky especially for the children. “He tipped the public to spend money on food or for other necessary things or endeavor rather than spending it on hospital bills mending a broken finger or two. -- Ginalyn B.
