LA TRINIDAD, Benguet
– Gov. Crescenio Pacalso issued an order to
temporary suspend all small scale mining activities in the province due
to the continuous heavy rains brought by the ’habagat’ or monsoon rains.
Pacalso issued the
suspension order last week following non-stop rains being experienced in the
province since last week.
The move is to ensure
safety and welfare of small scale miners against imminent threats
or adverse effects of the heavy rains.
The suspension order
came after the Mines and Geosciences Bureau – Cordillera issued an advisory to
suspend all the small scale activities in the province.
The temporary
suspension order shall remain in effect until further notice or fair weather
warrants.
According to the
PAGASA Weather Bureau, the heavy rains are expected to be experience in the
next five days.
The
Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is still in Blue Alert
status. -- JDP/RMC- PIA
