TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- Police authorities in
the province cited vital role of community-based organizations through the
Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) in anti-illegal drugs drive.
Police provincial
director Senior Supt. Victor Wanchakan said the help of BADAC led to remarkable results of operations under “Oplan
Double Barrel” and “Oplan Tok-hang”.
Wanchakan said police
operatives discovered secret marijuana plantation sites through cooperation of
barangay residents and leaders who fed reliable information.
He said many of the
more than 700 drug personalities in the province who voluntarily submitted themselves
to authorities this month were persuaded by BADAC members.
In a related
development, a group of Christian leaders and laymen here who supportive of the
nationwide campaign against illegal drugs recently formed the Shalom Kalinga
and are now helping in transformation of drug personalities.
Members of the group
distributed copies of the bible while sharing Christian values and education to
those they considered as misled brothers and sisters. -- Larry T. Lopez
