NATONIN, Mountain Province -- A temporary bridge leading to
this landslide-hit town is being constructed, the Department of Public Works
and Highways.
According to the agency,
the emergency construction of a temporary bridge was ordered to facilitate
mobility with the washed out of Lunas Bridge at a portion of Junction
Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road in nearby Barlig town.
It was damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon “Rosita” in
October.
The bridge is expected
to be completed within two weeks if given favorable weather condition, said
engineer Nelia Antonio, DPWH-Cordillera Administrative Region Maintenance
Division chief.
The temporary bridge
involves the construction of stone masonry slope protection at both sides of
both abutments, clearing of debris, boulder and obstructions, additional
protection and armor at the backwall of the existing abutments, and repair of
concrete abutment using reinforced concrete, Antonio added.
Meanwhile, more road sections affected by Typhoon Rosita in
Cordillera Administrative Region are expected to be passable by early next week
following massive clearing operations, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said.
Clearing of three
sections of Tabuk-Banaue Road via Tanudan-Barlig Road in Tanudan, Lower Kalinga
that were affected by series of landslides is targeted for completion by
November 20.
Clearing and
rehabilitation works are likewise undertaken in Kennon Road. Motorists going to
and from Baguio City are advised to take Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road, Marcos
Highway, Baguio-Bauang Road (Naguilian Road), or the Asin-Nagalisan-San Pascual
Road.
