Energy, SSS benefits top talks in Kiangan

KIANGAN, Ifugao -- More than 300 students and teachers of the Ifugao Academy here learned more about energy efficiency and the programs of Social Security System (SSS) in a forum recently.

SSS-Solano Branch Manager Romeo Reyes talked on how to become members and the importance of SSS contributions for the long term benefits. These benefits include maternity, sickness, disability, retirement and funeral and death benefits.
                He also informed that they are working for a full-time branch office in Lagawe town to serve members in the province.
Ifugao is under SSS Solano Branch. The Ifugao service office which opens only every Tuesday is lodged at the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) office in Lagawe.
Engineer Yps Tuguinay of the Ifugao Electric Cooperative discussed energy conservation tips stressing that gadgets and appliances must be unplugged when not in use.  People should   use energy efficient bulbs, appliances and gadgets to   lessen power consumption.
Tuguinay also explained the types of power interruption.  “The scheduled power interruptions are those being done for maintenance purposes while unscheduled power outages are caused by events beyond the control   of the electric distribution utilities either by natural and man-made calamities and other factors,” he stated.
The activity ended with a forum wherein the questions are centered mostly on power interruption, how to efficiently deliver IFELCO’s services, problems on erring employers and how to continue the stopped contributions of an SSS member.
Principal Ruben Puguon thanked  the Philippine Information Agency and its partner agencies for selecting their school for the activity which he  said  increased the knowledge of the participants about government programs particulary the  E-Power Mo campaign of the Department of Energy and s “Sulit sa SSS” awareness drive.
