Rob group boss, 5 men slain in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Seven members of the notorious Gener Dunag robbery group engaged in a gun fight with members of the Philippine National Police Region 2 Tuesday along the National highway in Barangay Bangag, Lallo, Cagayan.

Six members of the group were killed including the leader Gener Dunag while one of his members was arrested.

According to police report, the group committed robbery along Barangay Bicud against passing traders from Lasam, Cagayan prior to the encounter.

One of the passersby reported the robbery incident to Allacapan Police Station.

The responding team found the victims Ronnie Garcia, Agustin Inay and Ambot Rabago who told the police that the suspects were armed.

According to report, the suspects were sighted along Maharlika Highway following the robbery incident moving towards Barangay Magapit.

They were intercepted at the checkpoint of 203rd Coy RMFB in Barangay Bangag. However, instead of stopping, the suspects open fired at authorities manning the checkpoint.

The police were prompted to retaliate and the gun fight resulted in the death of the six suspects.

One of the suspects managed to escape but later on arrested at Magapit Bridge.

The crime scene was processed by members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) where the robbed money was recovered amounting to P296,000 in cash, some pieces of jewelry and cellphone units.

Firearms recovered include a KJ9 gun; three .45 caliber pistols and a .9mm pistol all loaded with live ammunition.

The six cadavers were brought to EM Funeral Homes in Lallo, Cagayan.

The arrested suspect, meanwhile, was brought to the police station for proper disposition. – Marje Pelayo with reports from Lea Ylagan
