DOE awards SNAP for safety feat

TRINIDAD, Benguet- - Renewable energy producers SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) -
Benguet and SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) – Magat were recognized as hall of
famers in the recent 2018 Corporate Safety and Health Excellence Awards during
the 14th Energy Safety and Health Conference.
The annual safety
performance awards is accorded by the Safety and Health Association of the
Philippines Energy Sector, Inc. (SHAPES), in partnership with the
Department of Energy (DOE) to energy companies with exceptional health
and safety performance in the workplace.
SHAPES established in
2005 is mandated to create synergy in the energy sector towards ensuring safe
and healthy work environment and to promote occupational safety and health in
all aspect of energy operations.
SNAP-Benguet
and SNAP-Magat were recognized of their exemplary occupational health and
safety performance for three consecutive years from 2016-2018, SNAP
Corporate Communication Press Relations and Branding Senior Specialist Karmina
Alejandro said in a press release.
SNAP-Benguet
covers both Ambuklao and Binga hydroelectric power plants (HEPP) which jointly
have more than 3.79 million man hours of having no lost time incident.
The Magat HEPP in SNAP-Magat, on the other hand, recorded nearly 1.18 million
man hours with no lost time incident.
Five SNAP personnel were
also recognized as 2018 Hall of Famer Professional Awards for achieving the
Outstanding Safety and Health Professional Awards for three straight years.
They are Clifford
Dailay, Hollis Fernandez, Jessie Palma, and Cesar Vicente.
Also cited were four
SNAP safety professionals who were instrumental in implementing safety and
health policies that helped the company attain zero lost time accident.
Awarded as 2018 Outstanding Safety and Health Professionals are Eliseo Rey
Ingles, Jillann Jacinto, Cheryl Ragsac, and Rachelle Anne Severo.
SNAP vice president and chief
technology officer engineer Emmanuel Lopez who received the hall of famers
awards acknowledged SHAPES and DOE for the awards.
“They validate the
success of our efforts to embed the value of safety into the SNAP culture,” he
said.
Lopez
said they have adapted and institutionalized globally accepted systems and
standards on health, safety and environment (HSE) into their operations.
They have likewise
trained their employees to be competent in identifying hazards in the workplace
and on how to mitigate them.
"We take pride in
our ability to provide not just renewable, but also reliable power to our customers,
in a safe and responsible manner. Our HSE practices enable us to do this,” he
