B’gay health workers get pay

BONTOC, Mountain
Province –Barangay health workers received their honorarium from the Bontoc
local government here during orientation on violence against women and children
on Dec. 13 at the Bontoc municipal capitol.
In his
message, Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey thanked the BHWs who are the frontliners
in providing quality health services in their respective barangays.
“You were
part and parcel of the achievement of Bontoc in garnering the Seal of Good
Local Governance (SGLG) for three consecutive years. With that, I thank you,”
Odsey said.
He assured
the continuous support of the municipal government to the health sector adding
that it is one of its priority programs.
Odsey
acknowledged the role of the BHWs in addressing issues and concerns on VAWC
especially that it is them who know what is happening in their respective
barangays.
He urged BHWs
to listen to the presentation and lecture of the speakers.
Development
Management Officer IV Clint Gil Ildefonso of Department of Health (DOH)
–Provincial Office similarly expressed his appreciation to the BHWs whom he
considered as the “unsung heroes” because of their enthusiasm, volunteerism,
and self-sacrifice in serving their respective barangays.
Data from the
Municipal Health Office (MHO) headed by Dr. Diga Kay Gomez shows that there are
142 BHWs in Bontoc. Of the total, Barangay Alab Oriente has eight, Alab Proper
– 11, Balili – five, Bayyo –six, Bontoc Ili -19, Caluttit – seven, Caneo –six,
Dalican – 10, Gonogon –eight, Guina-ang -11, Mainit –nine, Maligcong -11,
Poblacion – 10, Samoki –six, Talubin –six, and Tocucan –nine.
The speakers
during the Orientation on VAWC are Dr. Shamae Ofo-ob Calde and Municipal
Legal Officer, Atty. Seichi Ofo-ob.
Meanwhile,
also present during the program are Sangguniang Bayan members Viola Okko,
Alsannsyster Patingan, and Jerome Tudlong.
