Despite Covid-19, Baguio night market opens Dec 1

BAGUIO CITY – Despite threat of Covid-19
transmission, the night market here, a popular destination for tourists and
locals will reopen on Dec. 1.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong gave the go signal for the reopening of the market here along Harrison Road, subject to stringent Covid-19 health protocols.
Baguio market superintendent Fernando Ragma Jr. said repainting and fixing of lighting systems started in the area by the City Engineering Office.
Ragma said operational guidelines were submitted to the mayor for his approval.
As proposed, operation time will be from 8 p.m.-11:30 p.m. as agreed with city police director Col. Allen Rae Co.
Only 50 percent will be allowed to open per week.
Vendors will be divided into two groups for them to vend alternately.
There will be a total of 481 concessionaires (433 dry goods and 48 food). The stall measurement was adjusted from 1.5×1.5 meters to 2×2 meters.
Health and safety protocols have been crafted with the Baguio City Market Authority task force and the City Health Services Office Sanitation Division under engineer Charles Carame.
Each vendors’ block will have its own health protocol officer to assist city workers in implementing health protocol policies and laws.
Ragma said they will engage vendors and concerned agencies to ensure the smooth reopening of the night market.
Training and orientation of the block leaders will also be conducted to guide them in proper implementation of the health protocols.
