Banaue landslide buries house; 2 workers killed

BANAUE, Ifugao – Two workers died when a landslide buried their house here at Sitio Talop, Kinakin morning of March 22. 

 The remains of two workers were retrieved from the decimated house.
Maj. Michael Dangilan, chief of police of the municipality, said the victims, Emiliano H. Lupais, 40 and Ernesto Cirais, 59 were sleeping when the landslide occurred.

The soil loosened amid heavy downpour resulting to the landslide, he added. 

The incident was reported to Banaue Municipal Police Station at about at 1:45 a.m.

Residents immediately conducted search-and-rescue operation.

They retrieved the bodies of the victims at 2:15 a.m.

“Panay ang ulan dito noong mga nakaraang araw kaya maaring bumigay ‘yong lupa at alam naman natin ang Banaue ay isang landslide prone area,” Dangilan said.
