LUNA, Apayao -- The Dept. of Health Cordillera urged strengthening of  “prevent-detect-isolate-treat-reintegrate” (PDITR) strategy in Apayao to lessen Covid-19 infections.
DOH regional director Ruby Constantino in her visit to the province discussed with Gov, Eleanor Bulut-Begtang and health officials the province’s health situation and activities of the DOH and provincial government to provide provincial folks better health services.
Markrobin Daguio of the Apayao Provincial Health Office said the PDITR strategy down to rural areas will help prevent further Covid transmission.
Constantino urged expansion of hospital beds and isolation facilities in the province.
This can be basis for the declaration of the community quarantine status in the province particularly lowering the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine to a less stringent General Community Quarantine.
Constantino also visited the DOH-managed and Covid-19 referral hospitals which include the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center and the Conner District Hospital and training and monitoring facilities to distribute equipment such as ventilators, oximeters and mechanical beds.
She commended Apayao officials and folks for improving utilization of vaccines.
As of June 10, Apayao reported 94.94 percent utilization rate with 9,032 individuals who received their first dose while 3,760 received their second dose out of the 13485 vaccines allocated to the province.
The director also brought with her additional 1,480 doses of Sinovac vaccines, with the commitment for the DOH to deliver additional 4,000 doses of the vaccine within the week upon Gov. Begtang’s request for additional vaccines in line with the vaccination caravan the provincial government plans to undertake upon availability of supply.
Constantino and officials from the Apayao DOH Provincial Office and the Provincial Health Office turned over  newly constructed health station to local government unit of Pudtol led by Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua.
The new health station is a project funded under the health facilities enhancement program of DOH-CAR.
Meanwhile, Constantine awarded Begtang a plaque of recognition for the Province of Apayao for its active participation during the measles, rubella and oral polio supplemental immunization activity held last year.
In response, the governor thanked and commended Constantino for visiting and assuring the province will be provided with interventions to curb not only Covid-19 transmissions but other diseases.
Begtang also thanked her for facilitating technical assistance for the proposed construction of a molecular laboratory in FNGHTC. – PIA Cordillera
