BAGUIO CITY – Widespread information education campaign (IEC) on importance of observing health and safety protocols helped control the surge of Covid-19 cases in Mountain Province, Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan said Thursday on the sidelines of the Cordillera Day anniversary program here.
"I browse my phone and I am happy that we have been consistently registering very few (Covid-19) cases, he said.
At present, there are 22 active cases remaining out of the 4,688 total Covid-19 cases since 2020. "The officials, even some ordinary residents, have been continuously doing massive information education campaign about the need to observe the (health and safety) protocols and the residents comply," he said.
Lacwasan said residents already observe precautions during social gatherings like wakes. "They saw the importance even as they observe the cultural practices of honoring the dead," he said in the Ilocano dialect,
The surge in Covid-19 cases last year including those experienced from February to April this year was found to have been related to the holding of wakes and gatherings where people get together to observe a cultural practice.
"We were able to control the surge and we have been having low or few cases if there are," Lacwasan said. -- PNA
