BAGUIO
CITY – Road diggings here by different government agencies and private utility
firms hound this summer capital causing traffic and negative comments from
irate local folks.
City administrator Bonifacio Dela Pena told a media forum here at city hall lack of coordination resulted in newly-paved roads in the city done by one agency then dug up by another to give way to a different project causing more disruption to traffic flow in the area.
“Proper coordination with concerned line agencies is a must when it comes to road construction activities in the Summer Capital,” Pena said.
“That is why right now before any road concreting is done, we make sure that all concerned line agencies have signed the project so that if ever the road needs to be tampered with, it will only be once and not multiple times,” he added.
Those doing isolated road projects have reportedly been advised to conduct tests to make sure that parts of the road that they dug up are restored to their original quality or even better.

“The city government is addressing this
problem of perennial road diggings and is coordinating with different line
agencies before road projects are undertaken, Dela Pena said.
He usually accompanies Mayor Benjamin
Magalong and other concerned officials in regularly inspecting infrastructure
projects in the city to make sure that these meet approved standards and
quality materials are used.
