Cordillera projects: DOST inks MOA with 14 firms to boost production

BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera Dept. of Science and Technology will start new partnerships with 14 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Abra, Benguet, Ifugao and Kalinga following signing of memoranda of agreement under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) in separate events last week.
    In Kalinga, PSTC-Kalinga, headed by Dexy M. Catacutan signed MOAs with five SETUP-assisted firms: Skidmarks Tires and Auto Supply, Kalinga Mountain Food Products, Parway's Handicrafts Manufacturing, and EJ Food Products on Feb. 1.
Interventions through MOAs include production equipment and technology trainings.
    Staff from the PSTC-Kalinga organized a whole-day training on Fruit Wine Processing at the Awichon Village in the town of Lubuagan, Kalinga on Jan. 22.
    Eighteen members of Kalasag Farmers and Irrigators Association (KFIA) actively participated in the activity.
    Other provisions for the community-based project include wine processing tools and packaging materials, product label design and product laboratory analyses.
    In Abra, a SETUP project was initiated through MOA-signing headed by PSTD-Abra engineer Ralf B. Sapi-il, on Feb. 1. Under the agreement, Pablo's Bakeshop in Licuan-Baay Abra will be provided production equipment and trainings to help increase productivity and competitiveness among others.
    In Ifugao PSTD-Ifugao engineer Genna B. Jallorina, signed MOA with SETUP adaptor Tonton's Iron Works and Welding in Lamut town on Feb.1for delivery of equipment and trainings for the group to make their operations and production more efficient.
