TABUK CITY -- The gunman in the killing of Kalinga Judge
Milnar Lammawin in 2004 was convicted and sentenced to reclusion perpetua or
40-year maximum imprisonment "without eligibility for parole" by the
Regional Trial Court Branch 25 in this component city on Jan. 19, or more than 17
years after Lammawin's death, court records showed in the order that was only
released to the media on Wednesday.
Judge Jerson Angog, in his ten-page order, meted the 40-year reclusion perpetua verdict to Wilfredo Signabon alias Yolly after finding him "guilty beyond reasonable doubt" of killing Lammawin.
Signabon was also ordered to pay P350,000 in damages — P100,000 each for civil indemnity, moral and exemplary damages, and P50,000 in temperate damages — to the heirs of Lammawin with a six percent interest rate upon finality of the decision.
He was the lone arrested gunman while his alleged cohorts — Bennit Wandag, Peter Lingbawan and several John Does, or unknown companions, are still at large.
The trial court said Signabon and Wandag repeatedly shot Lammawin while the latter was standing near a pick-up truck.
Signabon also pumped more bullets on the fallen judge and later boarded a getaway car. – Vince Jacob Visaya
