43 wanted persons nabbed in Cordillera

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested 43 wanted personalities from Jan. 24 to 30. Based on records of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Benguet provincial police office had the highest number of arrests with 19  followed by Baguio with 15, Apayao and Kalinga both with four and Abra with one arrest.
    Of the 43 arrested wanted persons, 14 were listed as most wanted persons.
    At the regional level, Reynaldo A. Galanido listed as no. 5 MWP was arrested for the rape.
    At city level, Noel C. Domingo listed no. 3 MWP was arrested for robbery with intimidation.
    At the provincial level, Danny Y. Maruquin listed as no. 2 MWP was arrested for  murder with illegal possession of a firearm;     Edwin R. Villegas listed no. 6 MWP was arrested for murder and Devy Q. Gapas listed  no. 6 MWP who was nabbed for violation of anti-violence against women and children Act of 2004.
    In the Provincial Level, Kenneth L. Bankin listed no. 1 MWP and Jemler B. Lasaten, no. 6 MWP were both arrested for rape while Elenger L. Tamayao, no. 9 MWP was arrested for carnapping.
    In municipal level, Marvin Garay was arrested for violation of RA 7610 and Pedro B. Vicente for swindling.
    In the Station Level, Mc John R. Balazon and Glaiza C. Bianes were arrested for theft, Armando G. Ledesma for grave threats and Eugene Fernandez for robbery.

P8.7 marijuana seized in Cordillera;  8 nabbed

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet --  Eight drug personalities were arrested while a total of P8,700,000 worth of marijuana plants were uprooted and burned Jan. 23 to 29.
    Reports submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronal O. Lee said of the eight, six were from Benguet, one in Baguio City and one in Abra.
    Meanwhile, nine marijuana plantation sites were eradicated in Benguet and one in Kalinga.
    In Benguet, arrested were Leah Uri Ampelio, 40; Benedicto Bayodang Atngag, 35; Leo Cabacungan Arcenas, 33; Khristian Maddang Geston, 30; Arvie Raymundo Vibar, 28 and Novie Tongaan Samonte, 23.
    In Baguio, Monray Garcia Nidoy, 22 was arrested while Jack Daniel Cruz Caliboso, 22 was nabbed in Abra.
    Buy-bust operations resulted to seizure of 7.8969 grams of suspected shabu worth P53,698.92 and  confiscation of marijuana leaves worth P2,400.
    All arrested suspects are facing charges for violation of RA9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
    Meanwhile in Benguet,  a total of 24,000 fully grown marijuana plants were eradicated  in parts of Bakun, Buguias, and Kibungan.
    This, as four kilos of dried marijuana leaves worth P5,300,000 were seized.
    In Kalinga, authorities destroyed 17,000 marijuana plants worth P3,400,000 in Tinglayan.
    All uprooted marijuana plants were burned on site.

LT cop directing traffic pursues, nabs pickpocket


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- On a busy afternoon of Jan. 25, a mother carrying her child was walking in km 5 here in Barangay  Pico, when a pickpocket snatched her mobile phone prompting her to seek help, a regional police report said.
    The incident alerted Cpl. Marlon B. Esden, who at the time was busy managing traffic flow.
    Esden immediately reacted and chased the fleeing suspect and arrested him in the middle of the road.
    The incident was posted on social media, gaining positive reactions from the netizens.
    On Feb.  2, in a simple ceremony held at the mayor’s office, Esden was given a certificate of commendation from Mayor Romeo K. Salda.
    The certificate cited Esden for his outstanding vigilance and service that led to the capture of the pickpocket.
    In a Facebook post of the Mayor's Office, Salda said he hoped that the recognition would inspire  Esden’s peers to step up efforts in the municipality’s fight against criminality.
    The arrested pickpocket’s name was not mentioned in the police report.


 P90-M marijuana burned in Kalinga

By Liza Agoot   BAGUIO CITY – Law enforcers destroyed P90 million worth of marijuana plants in a two-day operation in Kalinga, the Police Regional Office-Cordillera said.
     In a press statement, Capt. Marnie Abellanida, PROCor information officer, said the marijuana destruction was jointly conducted by PROCor men, Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG), and the Philippine Drug     Enforcement Agency (PDEA)- Cordillera under the Operation Plan “Storm Breaker" last week.
    During the operation, authorities discovered six marijuana plantation sites in Barangays Loccong and Butbut Proper in the town of Tinglayan.
    In Barangay Locong, operatives destroyed 280,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants worth PHP56 million and 150 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves worth P18 million.
    Meanwhile, 80,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants worth P16 million were uprooted.
     A follow-up investigation is underway to identify the persons managing or cultivating marijuana plants in the area. -- PNA
