NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur -- More new businesses in Ilocos Sur sprouted following the opening of a world-class farmer’s market here.
According to a certified report on economic data of the municipal government, latest records showed in 2021, some 916 new businesses got registered in Narvacan, bringing the total number of businesses that year to 2,338 or a 64-percent increase from 1,422 business renewals in 2020.
The new businesses consisted of food and non-food stalls at the public market including other businesses in the information technology, tourism, and agriculture sectors, among others.
“The economic boom in Narvacan provided an increase in capital investments and more employment opportunities for the locals,” said mayor-elect Pablito Sanidad Sr.
Amid the pandemic, Narvacan is among the fastest-growing municipalities in the Ilocos Region with its aggressive infrastructure development and modernization program.
Last April, the local government unit launched its pioneering digital palengke app which introduced cashless transactions to locals.
