Couple shot dead in Cagayan cemetery

APARRI, Cagayan — A couple was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding attackers in front of public cemetery here along Rizal Street, Barangay Maura this town on Thursday, May 19.
The Cagayan Provincial Police identified victims as Samuel Soliven, 73 and his wife Teresita Soliven, 69, both engaged in business.
Police said around 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, the victims were on board their tricycle (kulung-kulung) and traversing Maura when they were shot by gunmen amid heavy rain.
The perpetrators allegedly overtook and fired gunshots towards the victims several times using unidentified firearms.
Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds on their bodies.
The perpetrators fled towards the east direction.
Responding police officers rushed the victims to Charles W. Selby Memorial Hospital (Christian Hospital) here in Barangay Punta but were declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
Members of the Aparri Police Station immediately conducted pursuit operations to arrest the suspects and requested SOCO assistance to process the crime scene, according to Corporal Marvin Diaz, investigator-on-case.
