FX falls into Bontoc ravine; two minors die, three hurt

BONTOC, Mountain Province- Two minors died while three others were injured when the vehicle they were riding fell off the ravine around 10:10 p.m. June 16 here along Bawi, Barangay Gonogon.
    Fatalities were identified as Fausto Querido Ballakis, Jr., male, 11, whose body was brought to his residence in Sabangan and Nathan James Oloan Ballakis, male,4, whose body was brought to their residence at Samoki.
Injured were Jeranie Querido Ballakis, female, 50, who was referred to Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital for orthopedic management inlcuding Fausto Langagan Ballakis, Sr., male, 51 who was also brought to LHMRH for treatment.
    Fernan Querido Ballakis, 18, driver of the vehicle, was admitted at Bontoc General Hospital.
    The Bontoc Emergency Operations Center, in a report, said the Bontoc Municipal Police Station received a call of a vehicular traffic accident involving a grey Tamaraw FX vehicle with five passengers on board which fell off a ravine along Bawi.
    With this, the Bontoc MPS immediately informed responding teams within the area for immediate response.
    Police investigation revealed the victims came from Bontoc and were on their way home to their residence in Sabangan but upon reaching the accident site, the driver fell asleep while driving causing the vehicle to fall into a ravine 25 to 30 meters deep and land into the riverside.
    Initially, all five victims were immediately brought to Bontoc General Hospital for treatment but the two minors were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey directed concerned offices to provide assistance to victims.
    He enjoined everyone in prayer for the eternal repose of the souls of the children whose lives perished in the tragic accident and prayers for the healing and recovery of the injured victims.
    The mayor thanked everyone who responded to the incident.
    Responding teams were Bontoc MPS, Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, Bontoc local government personnel;     Sabangan MFS, MPS, Sabangan Municipal Health Office, community folks, volunteers, and SAF personnel from Buguias, Benguet.
