La Trinidad bids out P150 million rehab of town hall

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The municipal government has bid out the multimillion initial phase of the rehabilitation of the town hall.
Mayor Romeo Salda told media initial funds set for the project will cover renovations earlier proposed.
Because of significant increase in prices of construction materials, the P150-million rehabilitation budget plan will also rise.
This will require the local government to look for additional funds to cover projected price increases.
Salda said the plan will address issues of people being brought to concerned offices for appropriate action and provide convenience to the public transacting businesses with offices of the local government.
La Trinidad is a first-class municipality being groomed as a city because of its perceived ability to comply with the two major requisites for cityhood — income of over P100 million and population of more than 100,000.
Its land area of more than 8,000 hectares, however, is not sufficient to meet the minimum 10,000 hectares for a first-class municipality to be converted into a city.
