Baguio road slated for closure due to project

BAGUIO CITY -- Jungle
Town Road here will be temporarily closed due to request of Marcons Builder to
the city government for an excavation permit along said road.
Marcons Builder President Martell John Garcia, in letter of request to City Engineer Edger Olpindo, said they were completing a project called City Hub at 92, Upper General Luna.
Part of requirements of the building was connection of all its utility lines and storm drainage lines to main city lines.
Marcons-Builder is a Baguio-based company engaged in construction and real estate industry since 1984.
Garcia said tapping of these storm drainage lines to the main lines of the city would require closure of Jungle Town Road for three to five days.
In line with their request for an excavation permit, the company had secured a certificate of no objection from Barangay Salud Mitra.
The company promised to repair the road “at or above par” minimum requirements set by the Dept. of Public Works and Highways and comply with standards set by the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other agencies.
Garcia also said they had tried their best to reduce discharge produced by the building but some were still required to be released despite their efforts. Discharges, if any, would be treated in compliance with the strictest Class A standard of the DENR, he said.
The Baguio City Council, during its regular session Oct. 31, passed an ordinance authorizing temporary closure of the road to avoid public inconvenience and give the company ample time to finish their project.
Section 21 of the Local Government Code of 1991 (Republic Act No. 7160) provided local government units may permanently or temporarily close or open any local road, alley, park, or square falling within its jurisdiction by enacting an ordinance.
The recently passed ordinance directed motorists to use alternate routes during the construction period until the Jungle Town Rd. was declared safe for public use. The public was advised to refrain from defacing signages, removing traffic signs, and stepping on fresh concrete pavements while the project was ongoing.
