BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) is one among only three municipal local government units in Mountain Province and one among only 135 provincial and municipal LGUs in the Philippines rated Beyond Compliant by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Bontoc MDRRMC was given a rating of Beyond Compliant (Excellence) for last year’s regional assessment of local disaster risk reduction and management councils and offices (LDRRMCOs) by the Cordillera Regional Development Council (CDRRMC) and Office of the Civil Defense- Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR).
Beyond Compliant ratings are given to LGUs which exceeded standards for establishment and functionality of LDRRMCOs prescribed under Sections 11 and 12 of the Republic Act 10121 while Fully Compliant ratings are for those which generally adhere to standards for the establishment and functionality of LDRRMCOs.
Mayor Jerome “Chagsen'' Tudlong, Jr., who chairs the MDRRMC congratulated  council members and community for their cooperation and support in all programs and projects on DRRM.
The mayor cited importance of a disaster-prepared and resilient community, considering Cordillera is prone to natural and man-made disasters.
Meanwhile, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officer Johanna Padaen lauded the efforts of the council members and the community which led to said award.
“The award goes out to the people of Bontoc, whose support is the reason the MDRRM council and the MDRRM office are being recognized. Thank you to our ever supportive past and present municipal leaders, barangay officials, Bontoc Emergency Response Team and other volunteers, municipal employees, our partner agencies,” she said.
