Bontoc guides, homestay owners join photog, bird- watching gab for tourism

Province – Birdwatching is set to be one of tourist attractions of this town
after colorful transmigratory and exotic birds were identified in two barangays
during a photography and birdwatching event.
Thirty-nine local guides and homestay owners participated in the recently concluded basic photography and birdwatching training initiated by the local government here through the Municipal Tourism Office.
MTO administrative assistant Elizabeth Farnican said the event was held in Barangays Maligcong and Bayyo on Oct. 19-21to develop basic photography skills of local guides and homestay owners and educate them on endemic birds in the municipality.
She added birdwatching was seen as potential tourist activity in this capital town.
Lecturer for basic photography was Juvy Lopez of mayor’s information office while photographer, vlogger and brand ambassador for Olympus cameras Ferdinand Decena, lectured on birdwatching and identified several endemic and migratory birds in said barangays.
Endemic and migratory birds found in Maligcong included, White-breasted Waterhen, Blue-headed Fantail, White-throated Kingfisher ,Yellow-eastern Wagtail, Scale-feathered Malkoha, Arctic Warbler, Olive-backed Sunbird, Purple-throated Sunbird, Yellow-vented Bulbul, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Swiftlets Mountain White-eye, Red-rumped Swallow, Mountain Verditer Colasisi, Elegant Tit and Chestnut-face Babbler
Meanwhile, the following birds were found in Barangay Bayyo: "Kingking" Luzon Water Redstart (juvenile), Collared kingfisher, Gray-throated Sunbird , Luzon Sunbird, Elegant tit, Grey wagtail, Brown Shrike, Olive-backed sunbird , Philippine pied fantail, Mountain white eye, Long-tailed shrike, Red Crossbill , Mountain Verditer, Flycatcher, Scale-feathered Malcoha, Sulfur-billed nuthatch , Little Pied Flycatcher, Philippine Bulbul, Philippine Swiftlet, Eurasian Tree Sparrow and Yellow-vented Bulbul
