Investment gab set for Baguio City projects

BAGUIO
CITY -- A two-day investment summit will be hosted by the city government of
Baguio on Dec. 12 to 13 at the Baguio Convention Center to showcase priority
development areas in the city and sustain economic gains.
City Budget Officer Leticia O. Clemente said the investment summit will focus on developmental needs of the city particularly on parking facilities, low-cost housing projects, cold storage facility for a modern slaughterhouse as well as the city’s smart mobility plan.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong said the city government will be offering 138-hectare property at Sto. Tomas as potential development area during the investment summit for potential investors on the 12 priority investment areas identified by the local finance committee.
Among these priority investment priorities are: green manufacturing and exporting industries engaged in waste minimization, clean technology and pollution prevention; creative industries, particularly the digital transformation center, Smart City mobility system and information technology-enabled services; tourism-oriented and related establishments such as parks development, ecopark and multi-level greenhouse at Botanical Garden, green water project and sidewalk rehabilitation and convention centers and cultural preservation centers to partner with the city government for the said purposes.
The city also wants to implement pioneering strategic projects, such as the market development and on water and energy resources development, she claimed the city government is inclined to pursue the put up of a waste-to-energy project, rehabilitate the city-owned Asin mini hydro power plants and revive the bulk water supply and distribution project.
The city government also wants to venture on research and development with the establishment of centers of excellence, invocation centers and fabrication laboratories and business incubation hubs and co-working spaces.
The city government is pushing ecologically sound liquid and solid waste management enterprises primarily focused on the upgrade and expansion of the Baguio sewage treatment plant and waste-to-energy project.
For mass transportation and facilities, the city government is pushing for the put up of the intermodal transport terminal, multi-level parking, cable car and elevated monorail and traffic or parking system.
Also in the priority investment list are development of sports facilities and preservation and development of historical and heritage sites such as the Dominican Heritage Hill and Nature Park conservation project.
The mayor said the neighboring towns of La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay will also be showcased as expanded economic zones during the investment summit. – JMPS
