Taxi driver evades being robbed by 5 at gunpoint

BAGUIO CITY – A
quick-thinking taxi driver evaded being robbed here by five men on Nov. 5.
According to Baguio City Police Office, the incident happened near the view deck quarantine border checkpoint when the five men boarded the taxi and instructed the driver identified only as Jeson, 44, to ferry them to Camp 6 in Tuba.
While cruising along Kennon Road, the driver heard one of his passengers seated behind his back, cock a gun prompting him to make an alibi that the tire of the taxi was flat and had to check it.
While outside the taxi, the driver, secretly glanced at the suspect seated at the back right passenger and confirmed he had a gun.
Immediately, the taxi driver made a U-turn towards the border checkpoint and sought the help of the police manning the checkpoint which resulted in the arrest of the suspects and seizure of a Cal. 9mm pistol.
Based on the report submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Mafelino A. Bazar, the arrested suspects were identified as Melvin Akisio, 18; Renzo Lucutan, 19; Jomar Domingo, 20 and two other male minors.
The arrested suspects, three of them miners from Tuba, one construction worker and two minors and confiscated items were brought to the custody of Kennon Road Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
The gun was later found to have been stolen on Oct. 22 here at San Carlos Heights, Irisan.
